Jolly Phonics: How to Start – Training Workshop - 6 teaching hours. This training workshop provides a practical introduction to the first stage of the Jolly Phonics programme. Participants will explore how to introduce the 42 letter sounds and the first group of tricky words, while developing a clear understanding of the principles behind Systematic Synthetic Phonics. The introductory part of the training explains how Systematic Synthetic Phonics differs from other approaches to teaching reading and writing and introduces the five key skills of Jolly Phonics. The workshop focuses on the scope and sequence of Jolly Phonics during the first year, providing practical guidance on how to structure and plan daily phonics lessons. Participants will explore a range of phonics games, activities and classroom techniques designed to make systematic phonics instruction engaging, effective and age-appropriate. By the end of the training, participants will have a clear understanding of how to start with Jolly Phonics, plan the first year of instruction and confidently develop the five core skills of reading and writing.
