Freda Baksh is a trainer from the UK who helps teachers in Qatar implement the Jolly Phonics programme within their literacy teaching. She guides teachers in using Jolly Classroom, paper-based resources, and multisensory activities to deliver engaging and effective phonics lessons.
With a bachelor’s degree in childhood and Youth Studies, a Diploma in Pre-School Practice, and over 20 years of educational experience, Freda has held various leadership and training roles, including Nursery Head and TEFL trainer.
For more than a decade, she has delivered Jolly Phonics training across Qatari government schools, Qatar Foundation schools, and private schools following British, Indian, Sudanese, Arabic, and Sri Lankan curricula. She has also hosted training at educational centres and at the Qatar National Convention Centre.
Her work has been featured in The Peninsula newspaper for her training at Doha Modern Indian School. She has also trained educational distributors, enabling them to effectively demonstrate and market Jolly Phonics resources.
Freda also created and led an after-school Jolly Phonics children’s course at International House Doha, helping non-native English-speaking children learn to read, spell, and write in just 12 weeks. In addition, she has supported the setup of nurseries, kindergartens, and reception classes, implementing the EYFS curriculum with a focus on literacy.
Freda offers online and face-to-face training, along with model lessons, equipping teachers and schools with a strong foundation in the three steps of Jolly Phonics and supporting progression to Jolly Literacy — ensuring every child experiences the joy of reading and writing with confidence.
