Intervention and Support for Pupils Requiring Additional Practice
With high-quality phonics teaching (Tier 1), the majority of pupils will make substantial progress in learning to read and write. However, some pupils may take longer to retain information and need more frequent opportunities to revisit and practise what they’ve learned. These children often benefit from additional repetition and focused small-group or one-to-one sessions.
This section includes guidance to help teachers strengthen learning for pupils who need extra reinforcement, supporting confidence and skill development in Jolly Phonics Steps 1–3.
Simple, hands-on activities you can use right away to build confidence, boost skills, and keep learning engaging.
