This Letter-Sound Box, developed by Jolly Author Sue Lloyd, is perfect for helping children who may have a weak memory and need extra practice of the letter sounds that have been taught.
It helps to put any letter sounds in a box, which are just about known by the child, and ask the parents, guardians or a helper in the classroom to listen to the child going through the letter sounds every day. The aim is to bring fluency and automaticity to their letter-sound knowledge. Then, when judged appropriate, add more letter sounds to the box as quickly as possible. Likewise, remove any that are known so well that they will not be forgotten.
The word(s) on the back of each letter sound is a useful guide to the actual sound linked to the letter(s).
