Overview

This workshop is a hands-on Introduction to Jolly Literacy, focusing on how to build strong foundations in reading and writing through the Jolly Phonics program.

By the end of the workshop, teachers will feel confident in delivering systematic phonics lessons that are engaging, inclusive, and effective—helping children become independent readers and writers.

Teachers will:

  • Learn the 42 sounds of the English language (including digraphs) and how to introduce them systematically.

  • Explore blending and segmenting techniques to help children read and spell with confidence.

  • Understand how to teach tricky words (those that can’t be sounded out easily).

  • Discover alternative spellings and how to guide children as they progress beyond the basics.

  • Gain insights into multisensory teaching methods—songs, actions, games, and hands-on activities that make learning fun and memorable.

  • Learn how Jolly Grammar builds upon Jolly Phonics to strengthen literacy as children move into higher levels.

  • Get classroom-ready resources, tips, and strategies for immediate application.
