Overview

Jolly Literacy develops early comprehension and writing skills using Jolly Grammar Levels 1 & 2 as the foundation. Children are taught to understand and respond to text through strategies such as predicting, sequencing, retelling, identifying characters and settings, comparing ideas, and expressing meaning in full sentences. They learn to communicate ideas in different written formats including postcards, diary entries, fact files, poems, simple news reports and imaginative stories. Jolly Grammar 1 & 2 give the structure that supports this growth leveraging systematic spelling patterns, suffix rules, silent letters, tricky word families, nouns, verbs, tenses, adverbs, adjectives, prepositions, conjunctions, punctuation and parsing. By applying these grammar and spelling skills into real writing tasks, children learn to build clearer sentences, choose more precise vocabulary and organize ideas with increasing independence. This integration ensures reading becomes purposeful and writing becomes meaningful, enabling children to read with understanding and write with confidence.
